I thought I’d never reach my dreams because I couldn’t stay consistent but a few days back, while I was doom scrolling or instead trying to fight the endless pool of content and came across a reel which has changed my life or rather gifted me with the only present I needed for the rest of my life and I’m not even exaggerating.
Being very ambitious and talking big day in and day out, I had always struggled on keeping myself motivated to do anything or keep doing something I started. It got to a point where I had maybe, just maybe started to think that I might not be able to catch up to my dreams at all. The reason to think this was simple – I was nowhere around in life I thought I was going to be and the consistency it required was just not there. The bigger problem was that there didn’t seem any clear way out of this loop of self pity.
The urgency to do something about it was always there but the agency was absolutely missing.
Around that time, my skin had caught up with some weird allergy/rash on my hand and I was again trying to convice myself of yet another inconsistency of being as hygenic as possible and since that rash was troubling me acutely I needed to get rid of it as soon as possible. I began to realise that if rather than focusing on the trouble of taking a shower, I start focusing on the freshness and new energy it gave me, it became easier for me to just go and have it. That day I came across a reel and the man talking to me through the screen was Scott Adams.
He said “What if laziness is a habit of thinking about the cost rather than the payoff”
-Scott Adams
This is where it all clicked and things came together and eacch bit of it made sense. The reason I found it difficult to start and struggle to continue doing something had little to do with what the task required and more to how I felt about it. Till now, I had always been thinking about the so-called trouble and effort something demanded of me rather than thinking of what it rewarded me with. As soon as I changed the narrative and shifted my mindset, doing things became multiple times easy than it looked earlier. The result of this change is right out instant and I warn you, the feeling of finally getting things done is very addictive and I never wish to go back from it.
The quote “If the why is clear, the how is easy” conveys the same message in a very sneaky way almost as if the speaker doesn’t want to give away this secret sauce of getting things done. If the why is easy that is, you know what you are going to getting after accomplishing the task, then it is very easy to get the “how” part done. I do not want this element of wisdom to get lost, rather try to share it with anyone and everyone who needs this as much as I do. Also feel free to comment your thoughts on this and don’t procastinate on putting one!
